Pete Marton serves as Director of Digital Identity at Fireblocks, where he helps lead the company’s digital identity and programmable compliance product initiatives, and advises on U.S. policy.
Prior to Fireblocks, Pete served as the Deputy Superintendent of Virtual Currency within the Research & Innovation Division of the NY Department of Financial Services. In this capacity, he led the Virtual Currency Unit, where responsibilities included BitLicense and trust charter applications, ongoing supervision, and examinations. Select policy highlights from his tenure include development of guidance to address the Russian invasion of Ukraine, blockchain analytics, stablecoins, and custody requirements.
Other relevant experiences include his leadership roles at regulatory advisory firm Promontory Financial Group. At Promontory, Pete developed and implemented risk management and regulatory strategies for banks, Fintechs, and regulators in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Denmark. Notably, he was the primary author on behalf of the Wyoming Division of Banking for its SPDI Examination Manual (the first of its kind to articulate cryptocurrency-specific risks and best practices ranging from blockchain analytics to key management).
Pete holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin Red McCombs School of Business, and a Master of Global Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Austin Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs.
