Nizan Packin is a law professor at the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College, City University of New York, and a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Law at the University of Haifa. She is also an affiliated faculty at the ISLC – Information Society Law Center at the University of Milan. Her primary research interest focuses on the intersection of Tech Policy, Financial Regulation and Consumer Protection. Since 2018 Nizan has shared her commentary on issues related to these topics as a contributor to Forbes, and has published op-eds in outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, Toronto Star, American Banker, and Newsday. Her insights into business law, financial regulation, and tech policy have been featured in magazines and media platforms that include the Financial Times, Business Insider, Yahoo Finance, Protocol, Medium, Vox, and Coindesk.
Before her academic tenure, Nizan practiced corporate law at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in New York for six years. She clerked for Justice Salim Joubran at the Israeli Supreme Court, interned at the FTC, and externed for Judge Jack Weinstein in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. She has also consulted regulators in the U.S. and Israel on open banking regulation.
Nizan holds a law degree from Columbia Law School and a doctorate in legal studies and financial risk management from the University of Pennsylvania. As a visiting researcher and professor, she has contributed to the Annenberg School of Communication and Goethe University. She also taught Tech Policy at New York University. She is a Research Associate at the European Banking Institute.
Nizan’s scholarly work has appeared or is forthcoming in journals such as the Washington University Law Review, Indiana Law Journal, Wisconsin Law Review, Utah Law Review, Houston Law Review, William and Mary Law Review, Hastings Law Journal, Harvard Law and Policy Review, Illinois Law Review, Stanford Journal of Blockchain Law & Policy, Chicago Kent Law Review, American Business Law Journal, Berkeley Business Law Journal, Columbia Business Law Review, Harvard Law School Corporate Governance Forum, Oxford Business Blog, and Columbia Blue Sky Blog. Additionally, she is currently editing “The Cambridge Handbook on the Law and Policy of NFT” (forthcoming 2024), a project she has spearheaded. Finally, Nizan has authored chapters for several books, including “YOLO Capitalism: Perspectives on Retail Investors in Modern Financial Markets” and others on AI and electronic payment systems.
